About the site
What this handbook covers, what it leaves out, and how the short notes are dated.
This site covers the hand making of candles from ordinary wax. It sets out how to choose a wick, how to melt wax safely in a water bath, how to pour a moulded candle, how to dip tapers, and how to trim a wick so that a candle burns evenly.
Each chapter teaches one technique in steps. It lists the faults that come from doing that technique badly and gives the signs that show it was done well. The glossary gives short definitions of the working terms.
What is left out
The site does not cover fragrance oils, dyes, or any other substance added to wax. It does not cover heating appliances, power supplies, or the wiring of any equipment. It does not cover the display of candles as decoration or the lighting of rooms.
About the notes
The short notes explain one small point each. Each note shows the date on which it was published, and nothing else about the note is dated.
